Kids Who Read Succeed / Book Worm Angels

-- Bring books to JRC by Friday, September 23

Every year JRC participates in a children’s book collection for Book Worm Angels, a program that encourages literacy. Since 1999, they have grown to serve 92,000 students by stocking lending libraries in the classrooms of 175 Chicago elementary schools where a large percentage of children are reading below grade level. However, more inner-city schools need this program.

Please look on your bookshelves, in your attic and basement for new or gently used, fun books that could stimulate a child’s love of reading (pre-K to 8th grade). Ask your neighbors, friends and family to help. No religious books, textbooks or encyclopedias, please.

Please bring your book donations to JRC only anytime from Sunday, September 11 to Friday, September 23, including dates of religious school operation. (Do not bring book donations to the Church.) Please pack your books in boxes.

High Holiday Food Drive -- Bring non-perishable food to First United Methodist Church on Yom Kippur

Both Kosher and non-Kosher food will be collected and donated to the ARK. Shopping bags will be distributed to Congregants at Rosh Hashanah services and should be returned at Yom Kippur services to First United Methodist Church.

Donation envelopes for the ARK will be available at the information table in the Church foyer during High Holidays.
