JRC is Judaism in action and nowhere is this more evident than in our commitment to Tikkun Olam (Repair of the World). Three times a month finds us cooking at soup kitchens in the Evanston community. Go to the airport and you’ll see contingents from JRC greeting a refugee family and helping them resettle in the US, or embarking on a journey to New Orleans for rebuilding damaged homes. We’ve traveled to Israel and Africa on work and study missions, with plans to return and continue meeting, learning and doing. Judaism in action!
There are regular “Social Action Sundays” with speakers and task forces addressing the important social and political issues of the times:co-existence in the Middle East, the war in Iraq, workers rights, the environment, peace dialogues and the global AIDS crisis.
We discuss, we learn, we plan, we cook, we resettle, we tear down, we rebuild, we are energized in our efforts at Tikkun Olam. We are Judaism and JRC in Social Action!
A symbol of our commitment to Tikkun Olam is the Rescued Holocaust Torah that we are caring for. Please click on the link for the history of this Torah and how we came to acquire it. |
