Some of the special things we are doing during the High Holidays

Not only are our services $18 for people 35 and under, but that price gets you access to all of our High Holiday festivities, and there are a lot of them. Come to one or all of them, and meet other young people who are active at JRC.

Rosh Hashanah Lunch for Young Adults
1st Day of Rosh Hashanah
After the service, approx. 12:30pm

After the Rosh Hashanah Morning Service, meet in the courtyard of the church and join us for a short walk to The Olive Mountain for lunch together. Please join us as your observance allows - folks will be paying for lunch a-la-carte. Check out the menu and prices>>

Tashlich Service
1st Day of Rosh Hashanah
4:30pm at Dawes Park, Evanston

For this beloved JRC tradition, gather at the lakefront and "cast off" things into the water to represent releasing our sins. Bring things to toss...breadcrumbs, bird seed, tiny stones, whatever fits your taste (we will have some extra crumbs if needed).

"Chill, No Skill" Artmaking
Yom Kippur

On Yom Kippur afternoon, experience the High Holiday liturgy through art. All artistic abilities welcome. Please join us if your observance allows drawing and listening to reflective music.

Break-the-Fast Potluck
Yom Kippur

After the Yizkor/Ne’ilah service on Yom Kippur, Chibur is hosting a community-wide break-the-fast potluck! Please bring a vegetarian/dairy dish to share (no nuts please!). Meet up in the Dining Room at First United Methodist Church.

And after High Holidays...

Cocktails in the Sukkah at JRC
Wednesday During Sukkot

Join Rabbi Rachel Weiss, our new Assistant Rabbi for Education, David Eber, and Chibur in the sukkah for some fall harvest themed cocktails, small bites and conversation. Everyone is welcome to come to this free event. Please remember to wear warm layers as we will be outdoors. In case of inclement weather, we will gather indoors.

The Green Synagogue and the Pillars of Chai

In 2008, we built the first platinum LEED-certified green synagogue in North America. The construction required 18 pillars - the number in Hebrew that also means "chai" or "life."

Now, more than ten years later, JRC has launched the Pillars of Chai Campaign to raise $4.4m to wholly own our beloved building.
