Our Philosphy

At JRC’s Religious School, students and teachers are happy and engaged. Although we believe it's important that school be fun, we're serious about our responsiblity to partner with parents to cultivate the Jewish values that will serve our children throughout their lives, in their personal relationships and as global citizens. Like many congregations, we consider ourselves "a community of learners" and at JRC, the emphasis is on the word "community."

Jewish education is a lifelong pursuit involving the heart, the mind and the soul. The Religious School provides JRC children with the building blocks they need to engage throughout their lives in Jewish exploration, community and activism.

Staff and Programs

We offer programs for students ages 3-18, ranging from Sunday morning Jewish enrichment through a monthly high school program. We have a loyal and loving teaching staff, many of whom have been at JRC for more than ten years. Our two special educators are on site during school hours to work with students and to provide support to classroom teachers. Pre-K though 6th graders spend time with clergy at least once each week.

Schedule

  • Pre-K through Second grade, students attend on Sundays only.
  • Third grade through Sixth grade, students attend on Sundays and and Tuesday evenings.
  • Seventh and Eighth graders meet Tuesday evenings, and they share in a community dinner before heading to class.

The High School program takes place once each month, with additional dates for field trips and activities.

The Green Synagogue and the Pillars of Chai

green_synagogue_0.jpg

In 2008, we built the first platinum LEED-certified green synagogue in North America. The construction required 18 pillars - the number in Hebrew that also means "chai" or "life."

Now, more than ten years later, JRC has launched the Pillars of Chai Campaign to raise $4.4m to wholly own our beloved building.
