Join us for JRC’s UnGala—a socially-distanced series celebrating the cultural, culinary, musical, and artistic enthusiasm of the JRC community! Thanks to the generosity of so many event underwriters, we are thrilled to make participation accessible to all, with just a modest minimum suggested donation for each event.

The Mulford Round Tables, Two Sessions
Sundays, April 18 and May 23, 7:00-8:30 pm

JRC is a literate and literary congregation with many talented writers, essayists and poets. Pull up your chair at Mulford Round Table for an evening of stories and memoirs. Each session will have a line-up of different writers.

An Evening with "Golem Girl" Author Riva Lehrer
Thursday, April 22, 7:00 pm

Riva Lehrer is an artist, writer, and lecturer whose work focuses on issues of physical identity and the socially challenged body. She is known for her works representing of people with impairments, but personifying people as people.  A leading activist of Disability Culture, her artwork, and now her memoir, "Golem Girl" has moved the discussion of people living disabilities into the mainstream. JRC's Todd Hasak-Lowy will lead a discussion with Ms. Lehrer on her works and her impact in making a difference in the world.

Sip ‘n’ Paint
Saturday, April 24, 7:00 pm
Deadline to Register: Sunday, April 18

Come paint with us! You will be given an art kit with all supplies needed to paint a beautiful canvas, all together with your JRC community on Zoom. No experience necessary! The Painted Penguin art studio will lead us in the creation of our very own unique hamsa-themed paintings. No two pieces will look alike!

The Great JRC Cook Off... Clergy vs Congregant,
Saturday, May 1, 7:00-8:30 pm

An evening of cooking competition, co-host bantering, and chef secrets. Watch as our contestants race the clock and show off their cooking skills. Rabbi Rachel Weiss and Congregant Debi Lewis will have 45 minutes to cook up a vegetarian parve appetizer and dessert from a box of 6 mystery ingredients. Our fabulous co-hosts, Cantor Howard, Rebecca Spivack, and Elise Jaffe will guide us through this evening of fun and cooking. Then your votes for plating, creativity, and featured use of the mystery ingredients will decide the winner.

“Game Night In”
Saturday, May 8, 8:00 pm

A 90-minute virtual game night tournament! Participants will play in teams, utilizing breakout rooms to compete against multiple opponents across varying styles of gameplay. During the final head-to-head round everyone cheers on the winning teams who are competing to determine an overall champion! Whether alone or with your family (recommended for 14 and up) it’s guaranteed to make you smile, laugh and connect with other members.

An Evening of Music and Musings with Steve Rashid, Singer, Songwriter, Jazz Pianist
Tuesday, May 11, 7:00-8:30 pm

Steve Rashid is an Emmy winning composer, a performer, producer, radio host, and recording engineer.  Creator of local music venue, Studio5, Steve will bring his unique style of jazz and storytelling to tonight’s event. He will discuss his musical influences and give a live performance featuring his original pieces as well as songs by two of his heroes, Nat “King" Cole and Mose Allison. Participants will get a glimpse of the local music scene and hear behind the scenes stories from Rashid’s life in the arts. WGN Radio called Rashid, “a Chicago Treasure” and so will you during tonight’s performance. Steve will include time at the end to answer some questions posed by those watching live on Zoom.  This performance will be recorded for people to see at a later date.

Whisky & Dinner with Michael & Michael
Saturday, May 22, 7:00-9:00 pm

Join hosts Michael Bloom and Michael Nolan as they curate a selection of world whisky and recipes designed to bring out the best of these spirits. Guests will participate and ask questions as Michael and Michael describe their whisky selections and unique blends, along with recipes for an appetizer, main course, and dessert. Cook along (virtually) with Michael Bloom, or just sit back and enjoy the good talk, great company, and delicious whisky.  The Michaels will create and share a recipe and whisky card in advance so you can pick up ingredients and suggested bottles from your local store for the pairings. 

Minimum Suggestion Donation: $18 per household.
