From the Cincinnati Reds to the Moscow Reds: The Memoirs of Irwin Weil

Join Professor Irwin Weil for a discussion of his recently published memoirs. Since 1966 Irwin Weil has been Professor of Russian Language, Literature, and Music at Northwestern University. His class on the USSR, later the Russian Federation, attracted 800 students annually. For over 55 years he has visited and worked in the USSR and post-Soviet Russia, teaching and doing research in Russian Literature and Music. He also co-founded, with Russian Colleagues, an American Studies Center attached to a University in Moscow. His recently published book of memoirs, From the Cincinnati Reds to the Moscow Reds, is a reference to growing up as the son of the owner of the Cincinnati Reds Baseball team. Later in life he met a different kind of "Reds" in Moscow. Professor Weil will sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase.
