Israeli Film Night: Melting Away (2012)

Join us for Israeli Film Night the first Wednesday of each month. Admission is free, and it's an entertaining way to learn about the diversity of modern Israeli culture and ideas.

"Melting Away," (2012) from director Doron Eran, is the first Israeli film to tackle how parents deal with the discovery that their child is transgender. Told in flashbacks, Galia narrates how her husband Shlomo learns that their son is a cross-dresser. When that discovery is made, they don't react with hugs or understanding; instead, they lock him out of the house and out of their lives. The idea for this film was conceived after the 2009 gay centre shooting in Tel Aviv. View the trailer.
