Racial Equity Task Force

JRC’s Racial Equity Task Force is based on a belief that a more just and peaceful world is possible. Our goal is to learn and grow, both as individuals and as a community, so we can better understand and interrupt the racism that lives in our societal institutions and in ourselves. The Task Force’s programming includes training, education, conversation, and social action. We know there is work to do wherever we are, and we are committed to doing that work within and beyond JRC.

JRC Trip to Montgomery, Alabama: Facing the History of Racial Injustice in the US

Tuesday, July 17 - Friday, July 20, 2018

Rabbi Weiss and fellow JRC members traveled to Montgomery Alabama on a summer trip organized by the Racial Equity Task Force to delve into the history of the southern African American experience and learn how it informs the fight for racial justice today. The heart of this trip included visits to two newly open sites:

The Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration

The National Memorial for Peace and Justice

These sites are designed to help our country grapple with slavery and its legacy, and JRC was among the first synagogue groups in the country to visit.
