Immigrant Justice Service

Start your Shabbat at JRC! Each week, our very own Rabbi Brant Rosen and Cantor Howard Friedland lead a service filled with music, discussion and cameraderie.

This Shabbat, we're honored to welcome Jose Oliva, founder of the Chicago Interfaith Workers' Center. Jose will talk about his work as an advocate for immigrant and labor justice.

Aid, Activism and Aftershocks: Human Rights in Haiti (not at JRC)

After a devastating earthquake struck Haiti in 2010, people around the world donated to help. But four years later, what has happened to the relief funds and how has the population recovered? Join American Jewish World Service’s Haiti Country Consultant, Amber Munger-Pierre, and Vice President of International Programs, Shari Turitz, for an on-the-ground perspective on the crisis and its aftermath.

Info Session: Hands of Peace Israel/Palestine Trip

Join JRC member and Hands of Peace board member Hank Conroe (who, with wife Harriet, attended the 2011 trip) for a presentation on Hands of Peace's October 2014 trip to Israel and Palestine. For several years, JRC has been partnering with HoP, an organization that brings Palestinian, Israeli, and American teens together for two weeks each summer for dialogue about the conflict, fun and relationship-building).

Youth Group Cookie Project

Have fun while doing a mitzvah! Help bake and decorate cookies to be donated to a local family shelter to bring a little holiday cheer to people in need.

Want to do a little more to help? Bring in some gloves and hats to help keep kids in our community warm this winter.

Untold Stories Project

JRC's Peace Dialogue helped to form the Untold Stories Project to encourage the telling of personal stories in a safe, supportive environment by people who have lived in regions of conflict. Our current focus is personal experiences of people who have lived in or visited Israel, the West Bank or Gaza any time since the Israeli occupation began in 1967.

This Sunday, we'll hear stories from:

Film: New Era Windows

New Era Windows: From Factory Occupation to Worker Owners

In 2008 the boss decided to close the factory and fire everyone. In 2012, the employees bought the factory and fired the boss. JRC's Labor Justice Task Force invites everyone to meet the employee-owners of New Era Windows and learn more about how they hope their struggle - and subsequent success - can inspire others to participate in building the economy we all want.
